Tráth na gCeist Ghaelscoileanna an Dúin
Tháinig daltaí R7 as Gaelscoileanna an Dúin le chéile an tseachtain seo chun páirt a ghlacadh i dtráth na gceist mór a bhí ar siúl ag Halla an Phobail i gCaisleán Uidhilín. Ócáid iontach deas ar fad a bhí ann le daltaí as Gaelscoil na mBeann, Bunscoil Mhuire agus Phádraig, Bunscoil an Iúir agus Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche.
Ba dheas an deis a bheith ag Gaeil óga an chontae bualadh le chéile agus a bheith ag Gaeilgeoireacht agus ag súgradh lena chéile, sular thug siad faoin chomórtas dáiríre! Bhí an comórtas teann le neart ceisteanna dúshlánacha ach bhí na páistí breá ábalta dó.
Bhí go leor sneachta againn an taobh seo tíre Dé Céadaoin, agus ba mhaith linn ár mbuíochas a ghabháil leis na múinteoirí agus cúntóirí a ghlac na páistí go Caisleán Uidhilín. Ba mhaith linn buíochas a ghabháil fosta le muintir Halla an Phobail as ligean dúinn úsáid a bhaint as a halla mór don mhaidin, agus ar deireadh, ba mhaith linn buíochas mór croíúil a ghabháil le hEmer Ní Aodhagáin, an tOifigeach Forbartha Gaeilge anseo i gCaisleán Uidhilín, a shuigh isteach mar bhean an tí againn.
Ar ndóigh, ba chomórtas é agus ní féidir le gach duine an comórtas a bhaint. Cinnte, bhí an comórtas teann – ní raibh ach dhá phointe idir na buaiteoirí agus na foirne sa dara agus sa tríú háit. Comhghairdeas le gach dalta a ghlac páirt go fonnmhar, agus comhghairdeas speisialta leis an fhoireann as Bunscoil Mhuire agus Phádraig a bhain tráth na gceist na bliana seo ar son a scoile. Tá Corn an Ruiséalaigh ag dul abhaile leo go Dún Pádraig i mbliana, go dtí an bhliain seo chugainn. Nach maith iad!
Rang 7 pupils from the County Down Gaelscoileanna came together this week to take part in a big quiz at the community centre here in Castlewellan. It was a really lovely event with pupils from Gaelscoil na mBeann, Bunscoil Mhuire and Phádraig, Bunscoil an Iúir and Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche.
It was great to have the opportunity for the young Gaels of the county to meet up, play and speak Irish together, before they started the serious business of the competition! The quiz was tight with plenty of challenging questions but the children were perfectly capable for it.
We had a lot of snow in this part of the country on Wednesday, and we would like to thank the teachers and classroom assistants who took the children to Castlewellan. We would also like to thank Castlewellan Community Centre for allowing us the use of their large hall for the morning, and finally, we would like to say a big heartfelt thank you to Emer Ní Aodhagáin, the Irish Language Development Officer here in Castlewellan, who did an excellent job as quizmaster.
Of course, it was a competition and not everyone can win. Certainly, the competition was tight, with only two points separating the winners and the second and third placed teams. Congratulations to all our pupils who participated enthusiastically, and special congratulations to the team from Bunscoil Mhuire agus Phádraig who won this year's quiz on behalf of their school. Corn an Ruiséalaigh is going home with them to Downpatrick until next year. Maith iad!
