Seanfhocal na Míosa
6th Oct 2023
A chairde,
Thosaigh muid togra nua ag tús an téarma seo. Bíonn Seanfhocal na Míosa againn. Is iomaí seanfhocal gleoite atá againn sa Ghaeilge atá lán le críonnacht, lán le ciall agus siosmaid, agus lán le saibhreas fosta ar ndóigh. Chuir muid tús maith leis an bhliain agus roghnaigh muid "Tús maith, leath na hoibre" le haghaidh mí Mheán an Fhómhair. Phléigh muid an seanfhocal seo go mion minic sna ranganna agus ag tionól na seachtaine le linn na míosa, agus tá an-áthas ar fad ar fhoireann na scoile le feiceáil go bhfuil an oiread sin daltaí againn a chuir tús iontach leis an scoilbhliain nua seo i mbliana! Féachaigí ar roinnt den ealaín aoibhinn atá déanta ag ár ndaltaí bunaithe ar an tseanfhocal sin. Coinnígí oraibh a chairde. Tús maith, leath na hoibre!
Agus muid anois i mí Dheireadh Fómhair, roghnaigh muid seanfhocal nua a phléigh muid ag an tionól inniu.
"De réir a chéile a thógtar na caisleáin". Glacann sé am chun caisleán a thógáil ar ndóigh. Ní thógtar caisleáin thar oíche. Ní thógtar aon rud maith thar oíche. Chun rudaí móra maithe a dhéanamh, caithfidh muid an obair a chur isteach. Caithfidh muid na hiarrachtaí breise a dhéanamh. Caithfidh muid a bheith foighdeach agus caithfidh muid a bheith ábalta glacadh le teip anois is arís sula n-éiríonn linn ár spriocanna a bhaint amach. Beidh muid ag plé an tseanfhocail seo go minic ar scoil le linn na míosa seo. Tá fáilte mhór romhaibh féin páirt a ghlacadh sa chomhrá seo chomh maith. Pléigí an seanfhocal, agus ciall an tseanfhocail, le bhur bpáistí sa bhaile. Agus ar ndóigh, má tá seanfhocal ar bith a thaitníonn go mór leat, déanaigí é a roinnt linn agus seans go mbeidh sé á phlé againn le linn na bliana ar scoil!
We’ve started a new initiative from the beginning of this term - Proverb of the Month. We have many lovely proverbs in Irish that are full of wisdom, full of sense and humor, and of course also full of lovely rich Gaeilge. We started the year well and chose "A good start is half the work" for the month of September. We discussed this proverb often in classes and at the weekly assembly during September, and we at school are delighted to see that we have so many pupils who have taken this seanfhocal to heart, and have made a great start to this new school year! Take a look at some of the delightful art our pupils have made based on the first ‘Seanfhocal na Míosa’. Keep it up a pháistí. A good start is half the work!
As we are now in October, we chose a new proverb that we discussed at the assembly today. Translated word for word, the English would be "Step by step, the castles are built". The same message is conveyed with the English proverb, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. It takes time to build a castle of course. Castles are not built overnight. Nothing good, worthwhile, of value, is built overnight. To do great things, we have to put in the work. We have to make the extra efforts. We have to be patient and we have to be able to accept failure now and again before we succeed in achieving our goals. We will be discussing this proverb often at school during this month. You are very welcome to participate in this conversation as well. Discuss the proverb, and the meaning of the proverb, with your children at home. And of course, if there are any seanfhocail that you particularly like, please share it with us and we might use it as our ‘Seanfhocal na Míosa’ during the school year!
