Litir dheireadh na bliana / End of Year letter

29th Jun 2017

A thuismitheoirí, a chairde,

The end of the academic year is upon us and I must say how grateful I am to yourselves for the wonderful support that you have given both the school and myself personally in my first year as principal. There is an African saying that it takes a village to raise a child and I believe firmly that it is very much a team effort that is required to run a successful school. Thus I would also like to express my appreciation and thanks to all the staff – the teachers, classroom assistants, secretary, lunchtime supervisors, cleaner and to all those who took afterschool clubs - for all their hard work and support.

I have been impressed all year by the terrifically supportive community that we enjoy here in Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche. Therefore, I must also express my thanks to our amazing parent support group, CAIRDE, who have fundraised and provided an array of fantastic new resources (including iPads, sports equipment, rewards, etc.) to enhance all the children’s learning experience in Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche. I would also like to single out “maimeo Helen”, our gardening expert, who has contributed so heartily to the marvellous work which helped the school gain its Green Flag as an EcoSchool – both teachers and pupils have benefitted from her expertise and enthusiasm and learnt a lot from her.

I must also extend my gratitude to other parents who generously gave of their time and resources by providing lifts for pupils to take part in a variety of competitions, trips, etc. This is much appreciated as the cost of a bus can sometimes be prohibitive, preventing the children from engaging in these beneficial experiences.

In addition, I would like to thank all those who took part in the recent survey on our website. Your feedback is very helpful in planning for the future. I have uploaded a summary of the results onto the website for your information.

Following some of the feedback, we have decided to amend the school day next year. Therefore, school will start at 9 a.m. each morning and break will be shortened by 5 minutes. This will allow an extra 20 minutes of teaching time each morning to facilitate the children’s learning at the point in the day when they are most productive. Due to this increase in teaching time school will finish for all pupils at 2 pm on Fridays. There will be a Crossover club provided until 3 pm to supervise children who cannot be picked up at 2pm. It will cost £1 per session. There will be NO after school provision between 3-4pm on Fridays. We anticipate cuts to the funding from the EA Extended Schools Programme. However, we still plan to run After School activities from 4th September – 27th October 2017. Details of activities will be communicated early in September.

Finally, here are the classes for all the pupils next year and which teacher they will have.
