Tionscadal UNICEF

2nd Feb 2018

Tá tionscadal suimiúil ar bun ag an Chomhairle Scoile faoi láthair. Tá muid ag obair ar chearta daonna agus chearta leanaí a fhiosrú agus eolas s'againn orthu a fheabhsú.

Our School Council are currently involved in a very interesting project. We are engaged in a UNICEF programme called 'Rights Respecting Schools' in which the whole-school endeavours to become more aware of human rights and children's rights.

Unicef works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured, and they are able to thrive.

Their Rights Respecting Schools programme embeds these values into daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives, and to be responsible, active citizens.

The programme is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. It takes a whole-school approach to child rights education, which can be defined as learning about rights, learning through rights and learning for rights within an overall context of education as a right.

Rights Respecting Schools work to embed children's rights in their ethos and culture to improve wellbeing and develop every child's talents and abilities to achieve their full potential.

At the centre of the programme is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (also known as the Convention or the CRC). The CRC is the international agreement that outlines the rights of all children, and provides the framework for child rights education.

We hope that your child enjoys taking part in this project and that they become more aware of their rights and the rights of their peers and all members of the community.
